The Romans in Britain

Our latest exhibition explores 6,000 years of local history…including the arrival of the Romans in 43AD. In this brand new hands-on learning experience, we travel back 2,000 years and find out what life in Britain was really like when the Romans ruled the landscape.

Curriculum-Focused Learning

Our Romans in Britain visit supports Key Stage 2 history learning, helping students to:

  • Find out why and when the Romans arrived in Britain
  • Learn about the slave cemetery uncovered by archaeologists close to the museum
  • Explore the things they made and used, and what they can tell us about day to day life
  • Understand how the Roman Army supported the growth of a huge and influential Empire
  • Investigate the sources that can teach us about Roman Britain
  • Develop enquiry, observation and critical thinking skills

All of our workshops can be adapted to suit other Key Stages, home learners and groups with additional learning needs.

An Engaging Educational Experience

Through authentic historical objects, experienced teaching staff and archaeology, we bring the journey from legions to logisticians to life.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

A visit to the RLC Museum offers:
