Did you know that Florence wasn’t the only hero of Scutari? Book an engaging and entertaining trip to the RLC Museum to find out about the other hero that helped the troops. In desperate conditions, whilst Florence was washing wounds and wards, Alexis Soyer realised that soldiers weren’t going to survive and win without better nutrition. He invented a stove that remained in use for over 100 years. Find out about the Lady with the Lamp and the work of Soyer in our fully taught learning experience at the museum.
Curriculum-Linked Learning
Our Crimea visit supports Key Stage 1 history programmes, enabling students to:
- Find out why our troops were in Crimea
- Explore life in a military hospital and why Florence’s work was needed
- Learn about how to feed an entire army
- Put the conflict in context
Bringing History to Life
Using real artefacts and archives, our team bring history to life in this fully-taught school session. Smell the food cooking on the Soyer stove, watch the cinema presentation about the conflict and come face to face with history.
