When the British Army went to war in August 1914, it was entirely reliant on horsepower. Motor vehicles were still a novelty, expensive, not always reliable, and yet unproven. Almost everything that moved on wheels had to be, by necessity and practicality, horse-drawn.
RLC Horse-Drawn Heritage works to keep this fascinating history alive by preserving a number of WW1 vehicles, and displaying them throughout the year around the country. They are a voluntary group of dedicated service and civilian personnel with a passion for WW1 history who aim to conserve, educate and inspire.
They are affiliated with, and based at, the museum and host a popular three-day event at the museum every August.
